If someone wanted to clean up this page, wouldn't it be fun to order the examples by length? Maybe we'd have to start with telling how long all the long notes in the examples are, though.

It seems that more and more singers feel the need to do the Star Spangled Banner with incredibly long notes. Hey, jerkwad, some of us are trying to hold a salute here. It throws us off when you insist on singing it as: "And the hoooo-oooo-oooo-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Oomme of the BRA-AAAAAAA-AAAAAAAAA-AYAYAYAYAYAAAAAAAAAA-AAAAA-BRAAAAAVE!"

Not just that, but they always involve melismas (changing notes multiple times during a single syllable). It's very tired and very clichéd.

Another example of holding a long note: Chris Thile when he's performing Brakeman's Blues in live concerts, sometimes hold the note in the penultimate chorus for 30 seconds.
