There's an awful lot of overlap here with Sarcastic ConfessionGrosse Pointe Blank, American Psycho, Breaking Bad, none of those guys would have said what they did if they thought it would be taken seriously.

I think the difference here is that it's supposed to be honest and legitimate, and something that the character had really wanted to say for awhile, but what's a big deal to them doesn't even register to the person they're confessing to.
