If it counts: In the 1974 Doctor Who serial, The Deadly Assassin, the Doctor is trapped within the Matrix (which is basically a virtual reality) by the Master. While the Master tampers with the reality of the Matrix, the Doctor says: "I deny this reality. The reality is a computation matrix."
