That page quote is interesting — the translation I read was "many the wonders, but nothing walks stranger than man." Not nearly as fitting.

Actually, in the real life folder, I don't think how a very large range makes us special: I mean, orcas, osprey (a kind of bird of prey) and peregrine falcons are also worldwide in range.

3rd and 3.5 D&D human and half elf multiclassing. Favored class is chosen at first level once chosen cannot be changed. Not to be a rules lawyer here but read the freaking book.

Concerning Starcraft:

It's explictly stated that the Xel'naga grant their Essence to a merger of two races that together embody the two traits of Purity of Essence and Purity of Form.

Kerrigan was as powerful as a High Templar before her infestation. When she was infested in the first game she obtained no new psi abilities until she had her conditioning removed. And in the second game her "Apocalypse" power is in one of the columns accessible while she's mostly human.

Kerrigan wasn't a standard human before her infestation, so really it's not that Humans Are Special and more that she is special in herself. You could argue this is a reconstruction of the Trope in that it's expanding on Terrans being a Loophole Abuse to allow Zerg to have psychics, but I don't think it qualifies as playing it straight: nobody delivers any speech about Terrans being special or the true chosen species by the Xel'Naga. Kerrigan just happens to match what is needed; the rest is speculation from fans at best.

I really think this should be a No Real Life Examples Please page, considering Humans Are Morons, Humans Are Bastards, etc. are.

Besides, the Real Life section is a bit narcissistic. Who's to say that there isn't anything more advanced than humans? ;)

I dont want to edit the topic as im unsure how to do so and be entertaining rather than annoying in doing so but pretty much every one of the "REAL LIFE" examples have been repeatedly refuted by scientists who actually studied the subjects such as opposable thumbs, language, intelligence, toolmaking etc etc

If you believe an example is just plain incorrect, feel free to just delete it. If it's wrong then it's wrong, doesn't matter how funny it is.

I think Blindsight by Peter Watts is an inversion of this trope. It turns out that the inhabitants of Rorschach are extremely intelligent but have no self awareness at all. The crew realizes that this is may actually be the normative for the evolution of intelligent life while humanity is just the exception. Sentience is just a sink on time and resources. So what makes humans special is more of a handicap.

Edit: Now that I think about it, an inversion would be if a non-human species was actually the special kind. This is more of a subversion.

In Blindsight humans are very special. Like the special olympics.

Where did the Sherlock Holmes vs Edward Cullen quote come from?

It comes from a fanfic, I think. It got absurdly popular on the internet.

Isnt´t Supernatural an example of this? Lucifer and other angels are pissed at being God´s second favorites and don´t understand what God sees in humanity. Also several villians will give a little speech(Pestilence for example) about how pathetic humans are just to be defeated by a human or in Pestilence´s case by human means.
