I respect opinions that this sweater makes him look like an idiot, but as far as i can tell this isn't YMMV trope and in-universe NO ONE had ever any problem with that sweater, least of all Phoenix. Mia's comment was less about the sweater and more about Phoenix being crybaby combined with her own allergy to dahlias. Overall it doesn't seem like an example.
