You should see it in a broader context: Judaism is not the only religion where Jerusalim is a holy city. During the Middle Ages, Jerusalem was mainly under the Islamic states' influence, except during the Christian Crusader Kingdoms' period.
I'm confused by the definition of "Jerusalem-style": how is Jerusalem not directly under the influence of Judaism?
