Sweet Jesus, is this s contest how much biased bullshit an article can take? Bet the authors are hipsters themselves.

Three quotes at the top is too much under current policy.

Not to mention that two of the jokes have nothing about the whole "I'm such a unique, special snowflake" ideology and just say "Hipsters=Dicks" (Not that I disagree). The William Hazlitt quote is much better, if only because can't be applied to any group ever.

So... Should we just drop two of the quotes and let the Hazlitt one stay, or should two quotes be kept up?

Why does "geek chic" have a pothole for "grunge"?

I'm curious as to how to use this trope. I tried it out on a series' YMMV tab to describe characters, and someone else said it wasn't a trope. Am I doing things wrong?

Thank you. I feel like this article was well done. I've never liked the current wave of hipster and would be the first to laugh at jokes at their expense, but the article helped me understand and (to a point) respect what the hipster is trying to accomplish. There is the seed of an idea there even if I don't particularly care for how its cultivated.

The article represented what appears to be a genuine proposition while acknowledging why that proposition leaves a sour taste in so many people's mouths and tonally managed to avoid making a judgement on any of it. I don't know if the article was always this evenly written but if it wasn't, it should be locked now to preserve the quality and balance.

the term "hipster" is very subjective. it's typically used as a Take That! for pretentious indie music fans, but not ALL indie music fans are considered hipsters. some indie music fans call themselves hipsters to dismiss all the comments they'd get from others (i.e. my friend) or to be Ironic (I kid), but most (like myself) tend to despise being lumped together with Jerk Asses like that. i have a lotta friends who aren't indie music fans, and while i don't agree with many of their tastes i don't shun them or make fun because of what they like. sometimes we get in to joking fights about our clashing tastes, but that's exactly what they are, jokes. ~Wanderingwonderer
