I don't think that Howard really codified the genre as much as this page tries to make it seem. I would say that D&D did that to a much greater extent. I associate Conan much more with Sword and Sorcery.

This isn't odd at all, just a combination of finding such a setting exotic and following earlier Western-written fantasy works.
You think a better image is in order? Because I'm not exactly sure if an awkwardly framed photo of a pinball machine is the right choice for heroic fantasy.
