I think what's been forgotten about Ewoks from Return of the Jedi after Jar Jar is that they weren't teddy bears. They were Heroic Comedic Sociopaths. The fact that they were cute-from-far-but-far-from-cute fed into this, and their fuzzy savageness was played for laughs. The humiliation of losing to "teddy bears" was the final comeupance of the Evil Empire. It's as if no-one remembers that they were going to eat the Rebels, and no-one questions why there were no Storm-Trooper PO Ws. Come on people: the ewoks were banging on the helmets of storm-troopers like drums and dancing around a curiously huge bonfire.

This is a question to anyone familiar with Buffy the Vampire Slayer (which I imagine to be a lot): does Spike really fit here? He's also listed under Sociopathic Hero, explained in a much lengthier entry. A character might conceivably fall under both that trope and this one, but even then it's usually more towards one end than the other.

Ethan from C Ad seems a poor example.
