The Wire shows a cyclic reality in many of its story lines. "The game's the game". The 4th season school students end up becoming prototypes of earlier season characters. The white knight running for mayor Carcetti ends up a corrupt politician like the one he supplanted. Every success in a stopping the drug traffic only gives rise to a new form of drug traffic.

Perhaps it's a good example.

These seem to be weak examples — merely similar circumstances or chatphrases aren't really the trope.

  • O.J. Simpson was chased by police and filmed by helicopter while he was a passenger in a white Ford Bronco. When he was driven home after his acquittal, he was filmed by helicopter while he was a passenger in a white Ford Bronco.
  • One of Ronald Reagan's most remembered phrases from the 1980 presidential debates was, "There you go again!"
  • Brett Favre has retired and un-retired from the NFL between seasons for, as of 2010, three consecutive years. You can imagine the media attention and jokes from the sports networks for this.
