That sounds more like a "skin swap" to me, which is technically different since it involves changing the texture on a 3D polygonal model. It's pretty common practice (especially in 3D games where the characters wear more than one outfit), so it might be deserving of its own page.
Should this exclusively refer to 2D sprite-based games, or should it be expanded to include 3D games like Dragon Age and Oblivion, where every member of a certain race/gender combo has the same body?
