The Big Bad being part of the conversation might make them a little too important. But two the character seen down there are never encountered by Kirby (the bird who's the actual captain and the sailor cap wearing waddle dee). And the rest are merely member of the Quirky Mini Boss Squad.
There's a crapload of Square Peg Round Trope going on in the examples. My question is: Should it go to trope fixers?
Hide / Show RepliesMake a wick or example check, and if it yields sufficient misuse (10%+), to Trope Repair Shop you go.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanPart of the problem is it's a vaguely defined trope that has like 50% overlap with Those Two Guys, another vaguely defined trope.
Edited by 66.68.62.80So basically, if the narrator was initially acting as a regular third-person narrator, (and as a rule, is assumed to be the author themselves), but start making occasional snarky comments about the author, while referring to them in the third person, particularly pot-shots about the story's premise and such, and express a level of "I know how you feel" kind of sympathy with some characters, only later to be revealed as one of the protagonists, does that count? The reason the character in question was the narrator in the first place is because they're used to observing things around them objectively, which alluded to their true identity.

EDIT: Okay, the character I just described seems to be this and a First-Person Peripheral Narrator. However, they wind up being one of the main characters, so I don't know if it really counts.
Edited by 69.172.221.6What about the Color Commentators in Professional Wrestling? Their based on Sports Castors, but they also comment on the Soap Opera like storylines and character drama. In some ways they fit the original meaning better then any other modern example. And they add a great deal of enjoyment to watching the event son TV or on old DV Ds.
I've only seen the first four episodes, but the chat room in Durarara seems to fit this trope to a t.
I write, edit, and code stuff. I also raise children and sometimes clean things.Should the Statler And Waldorf stinger (which was removed before) be put back and replace the current stinger?
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Wouldn't the musical "Elisabeth" also fit into this? The story is more or less told by Luigi Lucheni, Elisabeth's murderer, who tells it every night to defend himself in an unseen court room after his death. Or is this more a "all knowing singing narrator"? I think it fits both ...
Is there one in Twilight Princess?: Malo, Talo, Colin and Beth when Link is supposedly teaching them how to fight with a wooden sword (except it's really them teaching the player how to fight with a sword). Confusing. They do break the fourth wall in order to refer to button controls (although this occurs quite a lot with other characters anyway).
I'm wondering whether or not the Villains talking at the bottom of the screen count in Revenge of The Metaknight from Kirby Superstar?
