Is no one going to mention the Man Behind the Man trope? It seems like they go hand-in-hand.
I thought of a fitting picture for this trope, maybe Morgoth and Sauron by Eric Faure-Brac https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/lotr/images/9/93/Eric_Faure-Brac_-_Morgoth_and_Sauron.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20140523041759 Just to display a great evil bowing to a greater evil... don't know just spitballing. I know pictures should be added to this trope without permission.
Thoughts?
What happened to the launch pad/you know that thing where link? Anyway, the description describing "greater scope villain" as being responsible for the big bad is Trope Decay, pure and simple. This was supposed to be about an antagonistic force that was more powerful than the big bad but not related to the conflict the big bad was responsible for. The missing super trope was Villain of Another Story, which also allows for "villains" weaker or equal to the big bad that are unrelated to the conflict.
If something else is responsible for the so called big bad, then that something is the big bad, or maybe you're looking at a story doesn't have a big bad. But the description as of this posting, is just wrong.
That's why he wants you to have the money. Not so you can buy 14 Cadillacs but so you can help build up the wastesI'm planning on adding this to Renamed Tropes, but first I need to know why it was renamed from "Bigger Bad". I assume it was to clarify that it didn't necessarily refer to the most dangerous or driving villain. Is there a link to where the rename was discussed/decided upon?

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThanks, I'm adding this:
- Greater-Scope Villain was originally "Bigger Bad", which was often interpreted as "the real/final Big Bad", "the more dangerous Big Bad", "the Big Bad that starts the conflict", or "what replaces the Big Bad".
Any modifications to this you recommend?
oops, wrong box
