Can this trope apply to cases where the hero is so used to the villain being... well... evil, that it completely throws them off when said villain actually does something that was actually kinda nice?

Someone evidently forgot to implement the revised definition that was suggested more than once in the YKTTW. Can we get some feedback on it?
