Hawking would have hated having his picture here. He always said his fame is overblown because he fits this stereotype. And he called himself "disabled".

Is there a different way to name this? Speaking as someone who is disabled himself, I don't really appreciate the term 'cripple.' I notice that there aren't any articles with 'faggot' or 'nigger' in the title. Why is that? because it's in poor taste.

I joined just to ask this question because besides this specific issue, I've really enjoyed the many hours I've spent lurking here.

Just to be clear, I'm not trying to flame or start a shit-storm. But the title alone is a little fucking disrespectful.

Technically there is a trope with "fag" in the title, Fag Hag, but that's at least a pre-existing term.

Would Jorge Luis Borges (who wrote many of his works when he was blind), Homer (who may have been blind) and Alexander Pope (who had a whole slew of physical problems) count?

Would Odin from Norse Mythology count? What with the missing eye and all. And he gave up his eye specifically for wisdom...

I wouldn't think so. It didn't effect his fighting abilities or general mobility any.
