Not quite relevant enough in my opinion for a main page entry, but the Muppets may in their entirely qualify. If you look at their classic movies or episodes of The Muppet Show contrasted with some of their contemporary TV appearances, you realize just how much more natural their skin and fur textures looked with the equipment of the time, partly due to the softer lens focus and partly due to softer lighting.
Would this be related to Bloom in computer graphics, particularly video games? (Mario Kart Wii is an example with heavy bloom.) I heard of soft focus first, so I called the CGI effect as "soft focus" before I knew of its actual name.
