For Myths and Religion, what about the Parable Jesus tells where some Rich Man loaned a servant 10,000 Talents, which is more then ten times what The Bible says Solomon's Annual income was, and Solomon is generally thought of by Judeo-Christians as the richest King who ever lived.
Edited by MithrandirOlorinWhat was wrong with the old name "Impossibly Cool Wealth"? In my opinion, it's much more clear what the trope is actually about (wealth so vast it seems literally impossible, to cause impossible things, etc.) and generally sounds better than "Fiction 500", a name which is meaningless if you're not familiar with the Forbes 500.
DO NOT MATRIX WITH STEREO Hide / Show RepliesThat rename is far too old to show up in the histories.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanGood to know, but that doesn't really answer my question.
DO NOT MATRIX WITH STEREOI don't know why it was renamed.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanDave Strider from Homestuck could possibly qualify now. He has over 216.314 septillion boondollars. Considering an earlier quote ("Only 5,000,000 boondollars. Oh? You don't have that? Of course not! No one can have that! It's impossible!"), that is quite a few powers of ten more than quite a sum more than you'll ever need.
Edited by putnamehere3145 Hide / Show RepliesConsidering "more than you'll ever need" is probably at least a couple million dollars U.S. in 2010 currency, and a septillion is (I think) 1,000,000,000,000,000 times 1,000,000,000.... yeah, I think that counts.
That's correct. An American septillion (presumably what is meant) is 10 to the power 24.
I was wondering whether a high Wealth character from D 20 Modern counts... Like a guy/gal with Wealth 65. I mean, we are talking to someone whom can spend 90 millions dollars on a gun without it having an effect on his/her lifestyle...
Anne Rice's aren't the only Vampires with this kind of wealth. Christopher Pike's The Last Vampire (Now republished as "Thirst") give both Sita and Yaksha absurdly ill defined fortunes.
Edited by MithrandirOlorinWhy on Earth was this list reformatted by medium?
This needs to go back to being sorted by character. There's absolutely no reason why it should be sorted this way.
This is probably not an example, as the ill-formatted thread-mode addition points out:
- In Jurassic Park, John Hammond. In the book, he has enough money to buy his own chain of private islands that he practically terraforms, ten multimillion dollar supercomputers, gene sequencers, etc. In both versions, he has enough money to resurrect dinosaurs, fund years of research on them, feed them and genetically modify them. Consider how much any single item on this list must have cost. His catchphase seems to be "Spared no expense."
- It's not actually his money - the first book went into significant detail about how Hammond was essentially PT Barnum with more knowledge of what the ability to sell people on a concept could do. He conned major corporations into giving him seed money, which he then conned banks into using as collateral in his financing. The Gennaro character in the book comes from the law firm that set all that up, and is now worried that they'll face massive liability if the park doesn't actually open, or opens and is a disaster. By the end of the third film, it appears all he has left is his Big Fancy House.
Wanting to add this distinction for easier sorting in the future:
If a MegaCorp or a Para-Military Organization has a defined "controlling interest" (that is not the government of a nation), it goes here under the surname of the "controlling interest" *. Mega Corps and Para-Military Organizations without a defined "controlling interest", as well as Government Agencies, are required to file as an Organization with Unlimited Funding.
