Really needs a new title. I spent the first year or two of my troping never clicking on this because I had no earthly idea what it was. Fawlty Towers isn't really widely known among the younger crowd, and there's no reason this can't have a title like 'Web of Lies.'

Yeah, this name doesn't look good. Might want to offer a rename in the Trope Repair Shop. It won't get acted upon if you post it here, most likely.

Removed the following. If its a subtrope, give it its own page. For the love of god: DONT PUT IT BENEATH THE EXAMPLES.
Variation:
- A variant of this trope is The Flunky Is The Boss, which turns up in at least one episode of nearly every workplace sitcom. The lowliest flunky in the company has told a beloved relative (usually his mother) that he is the boss in his workplace. Now dear old Mom is coming to visit, so the flunky wants his real boss and all the employees to aid his deception. Very implausibly, they do so ... and the incompetent flunky is temporarily put in charge of the big company so that Mom can be impressed. At least two events are certain to occur:
- The flunky's false authority will go to his head, so that he treats the real boss like a lowly flunky.
- The flunky will make some executive decision as if he actually has authority to do so, with disastrous results.
- The Flunky Is The Boss can also occur outside conventional workplaces, for instance if the cabin boy on a pirate ship gets to pose as the captain.
I'm saddened by the fact that the Fawlty Towers example is Zero Context. It needs to be expanded upon or else commented out or removed. Which would remove the Trope Namer. I'm not familiar enough with Fawlty Towers to give any specific examples myself. (Never cared for it when I watched it, which was ages ago, so I don't have much of a memory of it.)
