The comic book and OOTS examples seem to be a little off-point with how much they talk about the presence of actual historical (that is, not invented) gods.

There's a bit of hair-splitting to be had there... often the comics use the names and specific attributes of the gods of RL mythologies and religions -and then toss them in a blender with whatever works/is wanted at the moment. And sometimes they just take the name and go to town. (Anubis gets a lot of that.)

Although... that might be a trope in its own right.
