As the name implies, with "Exploited Trope", the exploitee is a trope, not a person.
I noticed that under Playing Withs this is the most "???'d" line. Is this one still new?
Oh look I mispeled somethink. Hide / Show RepliesIs this seriously getting dumped on the cutlist again?
Note that it has a whopping forty wicks. It's a Trope Trope, so it doesn't need a lot of examples. Also, it's not "Genre Savvy with a different name"; it's more accurately a subtrope thereof.
Edited by SonicLover That's me.Hylarn was the one who cutlisted this trope, right? Well, I don't think he had a good reason for it. It's a Trope Trope, so the number of examples doesn't really matter that much.
That's me. Hide / Show RepliesThe nebulous description does matter, and the super low number of wicks suggests it's not done often.
The low number of wicks is just because it's relatively new, and I don't see how the description is nebulous.
That's me.Also, I quote from the cutlist page:
- By the way, folks, this is the cutlist, not the "Needs More Work" list. Listing an article here should mean "We give up. This one can't be saved."
I fixed the description, but um... you didn't get actual show examples before launching? That's a prime way to get this on the Cut List.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. Hide / Show RepliesThis isn't that kind of trope. It's not supposed to have examples, it's just meant to be played with.
See you in the discussion pages.Okay, there are a lot of Playing With Wiki entries and it'll take quite a while to add the Exploited line to all of them. I've already added it to the template page. Back on the YKTTW I suggested using a script to add a blank Exploited line to each and every one, then edit in the exceptions manually. The line goes right between Parodied and Deconstructed (that's where I put it).
That's me.
Okay, it seems like whatever examples there are of Exploited Trope tend to demonstrate the exploiter as being a Manipulative Bastard to the exploitee, in one way or another. It may have to do with the negative connotations of 'exploiting', but keep in mind the character exploiting a trope need not be a Manipulative Bastard, but merely Genre Savvy. In fact, a character could both exploit a trope that they themselves might have. A Cloud Cuckoolanders Minder could exploit their best friend's weirdness in a way similar to Genius Ditz or Enforced Method Acting, but without taking advantage of them outright.
