Sonic 3 /Knuckles was the most unique design, ever. Too bad no other videogame had the versatility of the Sega Genesis, PC perhaps coming close. The fact it worked with Sonic 2 suggests it was a feature already planned. Imagine all other franchises of the day daisy-chaining cartridges.
One Sega Genesis Emulator, I kid you not, had instructions to COPY AND PASTE both RO Ms together with a binary editor. Tested by yours truly. It worked flawlessly.
