Is there a role here for the Establishing Shot in literature? Every Discworld novel, for instance, begins with a long description of the Discworld seen from the outside and Pratchett uses the language of the script to explicitly say this is scene-setting. Moving Pictures is pretty explicit in lampshading that its opening paragraphs are an Establishing Shot - fitting, for a novel dealing with the fantasy equivalent of epic Hollywood movies.

I'm thinking this should be classified as an omnipresent trope. I mean, name one movie that doesn't have one of these.
