There is some truth to this. There is a certain extent to which physical development does control emotional development. If a person were trapped in adolescence, for example, they would be in a perpetually exaggerated emotional state from their teenage chemistry. Teenagers do experience some exaggeration of emotion and some impairment of their rational thinking. What we think of as them maturing out of it is really their hormones settling down.

I had once considered a version of this trope which generalized to gender and species too. The robot boy who wishes he can Become a Real Boy never wishes to become a real girl, let alone a real elf. Maybe this could be added somehow?

This seems like something that had -better- be true in real life, or bad consequences follow.

There are not many robot boys in real life.
