Isn't there (in Real Life) some different breed of "Emo Teens", the ones that don't wear (predominately) black, but instead rather screaming colors (neon), "funny hats" and intentionally bad (as in: poorly applied) make up?

That is Scene, which is considered a somewhat different stereotype. Though, I'm not quite versed enough in the similarities/differences between the two.

To quote the Crunkcore article, "Scene is essentially to Emo what Perky Goth is to, well, Goth."

The thread is insulting and a load of bullshit! FYI, the creater should realize and explain the difference between Hollywood emo and real emo.

Also scene and emo are 2 different sub-cultures.

Could someone add Romeo and Juliet to this thing? "Romeo is this at first, moping around and reciting emo poetry because of his unrequited love for Rosaline. He improves upon meeting Juliet, but when he has to be separated from her, he gets even worse than he was at the beginning. It is also worth noting that the metaphors Romeo uses to express his infatuation with Rosaline were very over-used cliches in Shakespeare's time. But as soon as he starts describing Juliet, his poetry gets far more original and interesting."

This should be removed. It's fairly inaccurate, it's insulting, and it really has no place on the site — it's not a trope, it's not connected to any other works, and it's purely subjective. Plus, it's not funny, despite clearly trying to be. This article fails on pretty much every level.

I agree. It's not a useful notes page, so it doesn't provide actual information on the subculture, but there's no examples, so it doesn't provide information on how it's used in fiction. It's just one big insensitive Take That! against anyone who wears black and has even the slightest problem. Seriously, they hear enough of this kind of crap in real life. Why do we need this?

I think it might be a real trope (I've seen it used in South Park at least), but the lack of examples is seriously hurting it.

I don't think it should be removed. If it turns into a useful notes page, then there is a serious re-work in order to provide correct information about "Emo Teens".

Maybe a rename would be better. Maybe Hollywood Emo Teen? Or just Hollywood Emo in general? That way, we can place examples and the stereotypes.

While I disagree that it should be taken off entirely (Although yes the word "Emo" is definitely overused as the article itself argues) , but admittedly Hollywood Emo might be a little better especially since as another article points out there's a huge double standard against young people with this trope and the title isn't helping. That and not all of the people in question are teens

I'm interested in adding a Playing With page , just wanted to see if anyone seconds it since the page proper is locked for...obvious reasons.

There should be a Western Animation folder and put Emo Kid from Kick Buttowski, also there's that episode from Phineas and Ferb where Candance takes a quiz and thinks that her true-self is Emo, so she wears the fashion and acts the part.

I've never seen an emo kid with facial hair. Connection? Perhaps.

I think you're on to something... Just wondering: is one still Emo if they have every right to be?

I will not be understood. Understand?!

RE: Cut

No. This is a valid trope, no matter what the troll who runs this site thinks.

Will there be any examples on this page that don't belong on Emo or Wangst?

This shouldn't be cut because of the emo trope. I'm pretty much positive that this trope was launched long before that one, so if anything, emo should be cut.

This page isn't supposed to have examples at all, so probably not.

ETA: "Emo" is a more general term than "emo teen." I don't think this trope is necessarily redundant with "emo," but it's not as useful. We speak of emo music, not emo teen music...

Also, the Emo article is better written. Since I believe this trope is locked, that's not gonna change even if the cut fails.

Why was the list of examples removed? Granted, opinions on what characters are and are not emo kids can be Flame Bait and cause Internet Backdrafts, but isn't that what the "Subjective" tag is for?

Yeah, Flat Character is a lot more subjective, and it has examples.

Nevermind, it doesn't. Obviously I Did Not Do The Research.

And, didn't we already have this conversation in the Archived Discussion?

Nope. The distinction should be noted.
