Yes.
First off, this is a video game trope for a fallback weapon you can use when you're out of ammo. Video game-ness aside, this isn't a fallback weapon, it's a recommended first-use weapon to use in case of an emergency, which isn't this trope at all.
Secondly, while I don't like the current, you should take it to IP if you have a suggestion.

This was also averted in Shattered Horizon, a 3D zero-G shooter which intended the melee to be an Emergency Weapon. Early testers found that combined with stealth it was possible to use melee with great success; the developers were impressed by tester's ingenuity and kept it like that.
