Removed sentence from Adventures in Odyssey example due to it not being true. It's a children's show; adult conversion is actually pretty rare, while many adults are depicted.

I just pulled out all this from the Real Life section, added over time by a gaggle of tropers responding to the bit about former atheists converting to other religions:

Added line(s) 203 (click to see context) :
** In many cases it becomes painfully obvious that they don't actually understand atheism since most of the claims they make about it are Blatant Lies.

Added line(s) 204 (click to see context) :
** Nicky Gumbel, who runs the "Alpha Course" program, claims that he was converted to Christianity when he took it upon himself to read the entire Bible, presumably out of either boredom or curiosity. Skeptics would respond that he's either lying, grossly exaggerating, or that he's the sort of person to embrace a religion wholeheartedly without examining it in depth.

Added line(s) 219 (click to see context) :
*** It must be noted that the average 'atheist' on the street has not looked at a ton of evidence on each side and found religion lacking, but has simply not had a push in either direction. If they are apostate believers, they tend to have been frustrated by the dogma and fanatics of one specific sect and generalize the flaws to the entirety of their former belief system. Both of these groups can be won over through discussion alone provided things are kept civil and the latter often pick up a different belief later in life. Finally, the majority of conversions attributed to divine intervention/revelation should logically be... illogical or opponents would argue that the person was conned.

**** Now, now, don't confuse Real Life with Hollywood.

This whole natterish exchange and series of rants reeks strongly of Atheist tropers pulling one No True Scotsman fallacy after another, claiming that former Atheists never "understood" Atheism and therefore were never "true" Atheists to begin with. Putting aside the fact that they think they can treat TVTropes' articles like a personal soapbox.

With the exception of a piece from Lawyerdude's example that was actually relevant to the trope, I've nuked all of that. I don't want to see this trope become yet another entry on the No Real Life Examples Please list. Keep the fallacy-filled ranting and intolerance of people formerly "on your team" off this page. That goes for everyone, 'kay?

I reworded these:

* Many of the supposed "former atheist" evangelists such as Lee Strobel appear to have converted due to some rather unimpressive reasons if one reads their books.
* Nicky Gumbel, who runs the "Alpha Course" program, claims that he was converted to Christianity when he took it upon himself to read the entire Bible, presumably out of either boredom or curiosity.

To these:

* Many of the Evangelists who converted from Atheism, such as Lee Strobel, appear to have converted due to some rather unimpressive reasons if one reads their books.
* Nicky Gumbel, who runs the "Alpha Course" program, claims that he was converted to Christianity when he took it upon himself to read the entire Bible.

"Supposed former atheist" has shades of the same "No True Atheist" Natter that I pulled out of the Real Life section over a month ago. I also trimmed out the "supposedly out of boredom or curiosity" bit from what I left of Lawyerdude's example.

Dear lord, I hope there isn't going to be a Troper Tales for this. Ever.

Can we all agree that this is among the most annoying tropes ever? Due to it's persistence? Specifically , the persistence of those that believe that this trope is true?

I'm looking at YOU, Door-knockers.

It makes you wonder if they ever actually convert someone on the spot. They must have some record of success in order to sustain their hope: or maybe they just take polite accepting of the literature booklet as a sign that CONVERSION IS NIGH!!

If there's going to be one, it's going to be off-site; I think they've gone ahead and removed Troper Tales entirely.

I completely revamped the example about science + religion in the Real Life section due to its tone. It had for too much opinion and Author Tract in it.

Can I add the Record of Loudness War as an example of Truth in Television? From my admittedly limited experience, most people would join the anti-Ro LW brigade after seeing the evidence...

Probably should get working on that essay now...
