Fucking Pokemon is an example? Yeah, you don't get the best content in pokemon's beginning, but you do certainly have access to a lot, and it requires very little dedication compared to something like Eve Online (Then again, a lot of things take less dedication than Eve Online).

Would the gothic series count? The baddies don't level with you like in a lot of games, so you spend the early levels running away from the weakest animals until you earn enough xp through other quests and such to come back and literally rain fire on your enemies (Go magic ^.^).... Also Gothic 3 is full of glitches that render it unplayable, but if you take the effort to patch it up and get it working, the game is rewarding enough to play in my opinion (though gothic 4 shall be released soon without the glitches to eliminate that particular bit of fun)
