Are you sure? The page history doesn't show any massive cuts.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I'm no psychologue, but since the Real Life section explores point of views (as a programmer and an atheist) I'd extend Humes logic as to say, that since there is no "soul", we are only different from a sufficiently advanced AI, that our minds are "written in a language" we can't read on biologic computers.
In other words... "If it looks like a duck and it walks like a dick."
The topic title is "Do Androids Dream?" but it's really about "Do androids have souls?"
The problem is that people are getting confused and adding dream-specific examples only.
I suggest the topic title be changed to "Souls of Silicon" or something similar.
Hide / Show RepliesIt's a refference to the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. It's an elegant title granted that you know that.
Deleted the following:
- But does it have androids? Wait, don't answer that. (Good joke, but it's unrelated to the trope FYI)
- It has some artificial creatures that may qualify, though - The best example is the Porygon line, the first artificial Pokemon. While it seems to have no behavioral characteristics to speak of in the original incarnation, or the evolution Porygon2, the final form, Porygon-Z, seems to have been corrupted by the Dubious Disc needed to create it, it's developed a number of bizarre quirks, arguably constituting an, albeit unstable, personality and soul.
- As far as this trope applies to the Porygon line, they have natures and quirks like any other pokemon. Whether or not they dream of Mareep, is anyone's guess. (Probably not. If I were in the Mineral breeding group, I'd probably dream of Froslass.)
- There's also a hologram-AI girl, Infi, in Pokémon: Giratina and the Sky Warrior.

It was posted under Alpha Centauri for some reason. I have no idea why.
This page seems to have lost all it's material. it needs to be restored.
