I feel this trope may need a cleanup thread. People still seem to be under the belief that this is still "The Dev Team Thinks of Everything", hell, even myself for a while. A example saying that the stairs in Lady Dimintrescu's castle have their every third step's in good condition since she never uses them due to her height, even calling this more Designer's Foresight. I feel this is a good indicator that we need to do something.

Why do tropes keep being renamed with these boring shit names??? "The Dev Team Thinks of Everything" is pretty much self explanatory, and actually tells you more about the nature of the trope than this generic beige "Developer Forsight". Not to mention, there are pages on the wiki that still have the old name on it.
"The English language is like a brick wall between me and you, and 'F**K' is my chisel." Hide / Show RepliesPlease stop copying your complaint all over the wiki. You already posted in the thread, an additional post here won't help.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI have to agree, the new name is terrible compared to the old one.
According to the description, the trope is about when developers think of and account for things beyond what most people would expect. It's about going above and beyond at predicting what players might do and putting in reactions for it.
Developers' Foresight sounds much more conservative in scope, and just implies that the developers thought of some things in advance. It sounds more like the name of a Wikipedia article than a TV Tropes one.
Thing is, this trope was vastly misused as "cool things developers do" and people were shoving it in for just about anything. The worst example I saw was on Sega Superstars, where someone was trying to say the voice volume options was such.
Perhaps this name feels more conservative. However, it's also more specific and tells much more about the original intent of the trope. Unfortunately, this is a necessity if we want to stave off the rampant misuse.
I thought that TV tropes wasn't as stodgy and stiff as that other wiki...?
He's just this guy, you know?Seriously, you had to go there?
Look, just because this wiki is touted as breezy doesn't mean anything and everything should be okay. If things aren't working the way they should be, then changes have to be made. Fun is fine as long as it doesn't come at the expense of quality.
I visit TV Tropes every day and this is the first time I've noticed this change. I like it! Much more elegant.
I don't think it is more specific. To me, 'foresight' just suggests planning ahead, whereas 'everything' takes things to the extreme, which is closer to what this trope is about.
Well, considering that I see more The Dev Team Thinks of Everything than Developer's Foresight, I would have thought that the name would have been protected under Grandfather Clause . Apparently someone didn't think so. I think that someone should be fired. Because every time I click on The Dev Team Thinks of Everything, I get a sad face when seeing the name has been changed to Developer's Foresight. It would be like changing the name of the trope Narm to something more descriptive.
Edited by wariodude128Unfortunately, most people interpreted "everything" as "anything ever" and shoehorned anything they thought was cool. If more people interpreted "everything" as "even unlikely situations" perhaps it could've stayed.
And firing people? Yeah, good luck firing the users who went through and discussed how to fix this. Grandfather Clause doesn't mean a damn if people can't be bothered to use a trope the proper way.
