does it count if someone is killed early into a season they were expected to be a main character in? i'm thinking of adding on to the succession entry

Removed the following Film examples:

  • For the first half hour of The Blob (1988) remake, we follow the character Paul. He gets killed early on and is never mentioned again.

Who is Paul? Is he played by a "name" actor? Lots of films have an audience surrogate who dies early on to establish a threat.

  • The titular Ken Park commits suicide in the very first scene. The movie then stops having anything to do with him until the very end.

Not a star, and has no real relevance to the film as a whole.

  • Severine from Skyfall is made out to be the film's female lead, complete with a Tragic Backstory and motivation to kill the Big Bad, only to be murdered after her one plot-relevant scene, as little more than an afterthought. You could take her out the picture completely and the only change would be Bond needing a different way to meet the villain.

It's like someone doesn't know that half of the Bond girls in the franchise are predisposed to Death By Sex/Disposable Woman. It's about as common as you can get here. Nor is this a "name" actor.

Not an example. Qui-Gon dies at the end of the film — this trope has to show someone dying within the first half of the film (or less) to really count. No weaseling out of it by changing the trope definition.

  • In recent re-releases of Carrie, John Travolta gets top billing even though he plays a minor character, the Alpha Bitch's boyfriend. Travolta's car bursts into flames, killing his character.

Travolta's character wasn't a star at the time the film was made, and even so, his character and his girlfriend survive until the penultimate scene. Not really an example.

These need more elaboration. I know Wilde's role was a Posthumous Character, but I don't know if that factors in enough.

Why is the Dragon Age/DAII example on the page? This trope is about stars whose characters get killed off fairly unexpectedly. Jory and Daveth aren't voiced by anyone of wide renown and, like the example says, it's fairly obvious they aren't going to be sticking around for long. I don't know about Mhairi from DA 2, but the IMDB page doesn't even list the character. I'm just going to remove the entire entry. Someone else can add it back if they see a good reason to.
