Regarding the recent emphasis on cutting off the hand/arm of handheld deadman switches, does a hand removed from the body still actually grip with enough strength to override a powerful spring?

RE: The Today Programme as a test to see if London still stands. I'll tried to add 'submarines would have to listen on longwave, so what happens if the cricket is on' as Fridge Logic to the Main Page and got shot down, with the rebut: 'If cricket is being played England must still exist!' However since then I've tuned into BBC Radio Four LW between 06:00 & 09:00 to find not the Today Programme but cricket from overseas. Because, even at the height of summer there wouldn't be enough light to play at those times in the London time Zone, so the transmission must be coming from outside the Time Zone. So the fridge logic remains, when using The Today Programme as a check to see if London has fallen, what happens if the cricket is being broadcast?
