Leaving aside the associated exact scientific rule, Piers Anthony's Cluster, as listed, seems to have it right. The more remotely a colony (whether in space or otherwise) is located, the more difficult it is for spacecraft and messages to get there, and hence the more isolated they become. As such they would need to be more self-sufficient and hence likely technologically regressive (albeit not to the point described, and likely with Schizo Tech characteristics). We have seen similar things in Outback Australia, the African Veldt, and other frontiers of the British Empire during the 19th century, as well as of course the Wild West. Especially in universes with no FTL travel or superluminal communication, or where these are difficult or expensive, this should be the case.

Why are there Feudal Future examples here when that has its own page?

I found it funny that Star Wars was under all four headings. Though the "Other" entry could use a bit of explanation.

The "Other" was pretty much added as a joke.

I can't decide if the addendum "Actually Star Wars is a terrible example [...]" is brilliant or stupid.

Shouldn't Star Wars be the "Days of Past Future" instead? Star Wars happened "a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away". My point is, Star Wars happened in the past, so it doesn't fit this trope.
