It's not "many ethnologists believe" and "rabbis theorize". It's right in the text that you can only demand monetary compensation. "no tagbacks" is also included. Talk about not doing the research.
If we're being technical, this trope doesn't actually posit that "do unto others as you want others to do unto you" is not perfect. The maxim means that you should treat others the way you want them to treat you, not that you should treat them the way they treat you. Just saiyan.
