Should this be considered a discredited or dead horse trope? The description makes it pretty clear that a cut and pasted note is significantly easier to trace then a typed one (as in the difference between a identifying a printer or toner brand and identifying an exact person). I can't imagine anyone playing this trope strait in anything taking place post 1960s.
