I disagree that jealousy is depicted more sympathetically in women than men.

There are plenty of jealous women who are depicted as dangerous:

Ellen in Far From Heaven Roxy in Basic Instinct Claire Howell in Oz (over Mc Manus comforting Whipple when her mother died) Snowball Merriman and Di Barker in Bad Girls Evelyn Draper in Play Misty For Me Tanya Turner in Footballers Wives Mel in Flight of the Concords Rose from Two and a Half Men Diane from Mulholland Drive Barbara from Notes on A Scandal Kate in Kate's Addiction Mia in Cutting It Lydia from Hollyoaks Jazz's sister in the Fresh Prince Cathy Bradford in The Bill Maya and Tracey in Coronation Street Faith in The Aviator Debbie in Devil in the Flesh Gloria Trillo in The Sopranos Sally in Emmerdale Maria Elena in Vicky Cristina Barcelona Ester in Orphan Sarah Cairns in Eastenders Angie Russell in Home and Away Adrian in The Crush Carol in Sparkhouse Lady Kaede in Ran

I think I've made my point

I know it's old but I agree with this.

What trope do you use when a guy is just clingy and codependent, not violent or crazy?

Clingy Jealous Girl but noting that it's a gender-inversion.

Deleted this Supernatural example because I don't think it qualifies:

  • Dean Winchester is this in regards to Sam. Dean is super possessive of Sam. He gets highly jealous and suspicious of Sam's other relationships, especially Sam's relationships with love interests or women (such as Meg, Ruby, Becky, Amy, Amelia, even Jessica). In season eight after Dean got back from Purgatory, Dean asks Sam what made him quit hunting. He asked Sam if he quit hunting because of a girl. The manner in which Dean asked Sam about whether or not Sam quit hunting over a girl made Dean come off as a jealous boyfriend, a man scorned or a scorned husband. Also, in"Southern Comfort", when Dean was under a spell, Dean had Sam at gunpoint telling Sam that Sam had left Dean to die for a girl (Amelia). Let's not forget the whole Ruby, Sam and Dean debacle in season four. Some fans even consider it the very first (and only real) love triangle of Supernatural.

First, because Sam and Dean are not love interests, no matter how much certain aspects of the fandom wish they were. Secondly, in neither Ruby's case nor Amelia's was Dean motivated by jealousy -In Ruby's, it was his (completely correct) suspicion that she was evil and manipulating Sam, and with Amelia he was feeling betrayed that Sam had left him to die in Purgatory (albeit unknowingly) which Amelia was more incidental to than the root cause.

I'm not even sure what the other cases of him being "jealous" are, but I suspect it was something extremely minor the OP blew out of proportion and it's probably irrelevant anyway.

Also, the work name needs to be out in the open, not hidden behind a pothole.

This might sound weird when you think about it ,but I think Moarte from Lewis Lovhaug's Longbox of the Damned might be this trope. Why? Well a fan made tumblr made a origin story (that you can find just by doing a google search) in where Moarte was a magician that killed a rival to obtain the Longbox. I bring this up because the reason for why he would want it is because he wanted to use his power to become the greatest magician of all time, thus he was probably jealous that the rival had such great power in his hands. So he went crazy and decided to kill the rival in order to obtain that power. Yet again this is my analysis of a piece of fan fiction. But keep in mind that fan fiction was so popular that Lewis, himself was considering on making it his official back story. So it might be in canon. Please tell me what you think, does Moarte qualify for this trope? Read the Tumblr post and I'll let you decide for yourself

In retrospect, that wasn't a very good trope to put in there. Sure not all tropes are romance-based ,but I was probably reading the description wrong
