Wouldn't it make better sense to note *four* types of consistency to clean up the ambiguity with sequels (amongst other); split "verse consistency" from "genre consistency".
There are tropes that apply almost universally to a genre, for instance, but a specific work eschews them. Having sequels consistent with the original and expanded universe be consistent with the canon is not really /genre/ consistency, but it's consistency within what should be the same universe with the same rules. Just thinking out loud.
