Frieza's bulking up: It's not really a clipped wing angel IMO, since it does work. Before it, Frieza is clearly no match for super saiyan Goku, but because of the bulking up he gains a temporary upper hand, in speed at least, and even when it ebbs, Goku still doesn't dominate him to the extent that he did when Frieza was at 50%.

Does this trope extend to when a boss merely Turns Red rather than actually going One-Winged Angel but still becomes easier rather than harder? I'm thinking about various bosses from Dark Souls and Bloodborne.
Always expect the worst and you can only be pleasantly surprised.
