Does Agatha Prenderghast from ParaNorman qualify as a Classic Villain? I think that she fits quite well.

  • Wrath: Her vice, which contrasts The Hero's Patience. Her goal is to get revenge on the townspeople who killed her. She became so obsessed with making them pay for what they did to her that she completely forgot about the people who loved her and she almost completely lost herself in her rage. It's until The Hero helps her remember the good things about her life and makes her realize she has to find peace to see her mother again that the villain finally lets go of her revenge.
  • Visual Difference: She is the only ghost character who appears in two forms, with both looking different from the other ghosts whom The Hero ever meets. The former has dark colors, though unlike most, Dark Is Not Evil for her.
  • Deception: A variant; The Hero and the audience never learn her true nature until at some point, though unlike most, the townspeople believes her to be the Wicked Witch while she is in truth Not Evil, Just Misunderstood.
  • Final Battle during a storm
  • Foil for The Hero: She serves as the Evil Counterpart for The Hero, but chooses the different path than the latter. She lacks the strength The Hero does (Patience in her case), while being strong where The Hero is weak.

Would Bowser qualify as a Classic Villain? Here are some arguments...

  • Ambition: Wants to Take Over the World.
  • Lust: Wants Princess Peach as his wife.
  • Pride: Some of his war machines have his face in them, not to mention his "I'm awesome" speeches in the RPGs.
  • Wrath: Becomes a lot more dangerous in boss fights when he gets angry.

What do you think?

WHY ARE YOU YELLING?????

Seriously, though, this is the Classic Villain through European eyes, it's entirely possible that the standard villain is very different in Anime. I so lack the education to speak firmly on that point, just a guess.
