Pulled

  • This is the setting for virtually all of the Marvel Noir books, the only exception being Iron Man Noir and Weapon X Noir. Nighttime, rain, guns, lowlifes, the works.

This is not a specific example and generalizations are not allowed.

Most classic noir novels and films take place in Los Angeles, or San Francisco or the Mexican border. New York is a common setting, but it's nowhere near as prevelant as the trope description implies.

What is this 'social life' of which you speak?

Would Roanapur from Black Lagoon count? It certainly a wretched hive, on the other hand it's always sunny there.

I don't think bombed out cities fit. Moving this example to discussion:

  • Halo 3: ODST takes place in the dark and rainy backdrop of New Mombasa.
    • Well, it's fairly difficult to show a functioning and livable city after it has been completely destroyed by Scary Dogmatic Aliens. Even in the flashback missions, the city is still under attack by said aliens, and As You Know, War Is Hell.
