Do characters called Sakurako count if the right kanji is there?
Hide / Show RepliesIf they fit all the other criteria of the trope.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickThis trope was renamed and redefined per this TRS thread.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up. Hide / Show RepliesWhy? This deals with a trope predominantly seen in Japanese media, and this type of character will almost invariably be named Sakura! Why did they change the name?
Because people not familiar with Japanese media wouldn't be able to understand it.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Because people kept using it for everyone named Sakura and not including valid examples with other names. Thus the previous name was causing trope decay and misuse. The rename was done to fix that and make it clear that it wasn't just "People named Sakura."

This entry needs to be expanded according to How To Write An Example.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerOk, I need some advise for a potential example.
In Tokimeki Memorial 2, the Even Better Sequel of the famous Japanese non-H Dating Sim series by Konami, we have the most popular character of the game, Kaori Yae. Now her name isn't "Sakura" or something. But written in Japanese, her name would be "八重 花桜梨".
So, three notes on this :
- 1st, her given name, Kaori, has the Kanji for "Sakura" in it. It's the second of the 3 Kanji of her name, read here with its on-yomi (Chinese) reading "Ô", instead of its kun-yomi (Japanese) reading "Sakura".
- 2nd, 八重桜, "Yaezakura", in Japanese, is a double-flowering cherry tree. You've got the first part of that Japanese word, "Yae", in her first name, and the second part, "sakura", in her given name ;
- 3rd, in the game, Cherry trees are a vital part of her scenario, most notably in her mandatory Event when she finally musters her courage and talk about her painful past to the protagonist, doing it under cherry trees and comparing herself to one of them which is late at blooming).
So there's a technicality problem : her name isn't read as "sakura", but otherwise everything in her name and in context are cherry tree-themed (hell, even her symbolic flower is listed as being the "Yaezakura" in the Tokimeki Memorial 2 Illustrations Book !).
Is it possible to add her in the list nonetheless, in the "Sakura Other" section eventually ? Thanks for your answer !

Would Cheryl Blossom from Archie count as a western example? She's associated with love, arguably fate as well (she seems to be innately lucky), and she has red hair which is as close as they can get in a "mundane" western setting.
