might well add Asimov's "Wendell Urth" stories - under Lit. - as another housebound genius detective, who NEVER leaves home to solve a (Sci-Fi) mystery . . .

How is this an inversion of the Genius Ditz or Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass? Wouldn't the inversion be someone who is incompetent but hard-working?

Agreed... they're actually complimentary, not inversions. At all. If anything it's an inversion of Weak, but Skilled, but based on intelligence, not power.

I so agree with everything under 'Real Life'. Well, I'm not saying I'm genius but my teachers and guidance councilors always tell me "You have the brain, you just have to work... blah blah blah"; "You need to 'fix' you laziness or else your brain would go to waste"; "You can do better", "You're intelligent, you're just lazy." Jeez, I'm tired of listening to them. Different words, the same meaning. I hear it everytime there's a project and/or assignment i fail to submit and when I got a mistake on tests(which means all the time). Also, I've been transferring schools, and i hear it from almost all the teachers that 'handled' me, in all the schools I've went. Even when I graduated high school, they said I would have been the valedictorian if i'm not lazy. Now, I'm 'supposed to be' in college at the age of 14 but i dropped out (not because I failed) because of the unsatisfactory(low) grades i get because of lack of "study habits". I'm thinking of 'practicing' how NOT to be lazy, then go back to school(or else, i'll barely pass the first year in college and fail the 2nd year for real). Wish me luck, i hope i'll improve. *sigh*

"•Shikamaru Nara from Naruto defines this trope and was a former Trope Namer" Was he ever? I remember adding in that line myself as "...if this trope had appeared a year sooner it might've been called The Shikamaru" (but already when this was launched there had already been a trend away from "the + (character name)" trope names.

This trope has always been named after that line from Spiderman 2. From the moment it hit YKTTW.
