Seriously, Simon & Garfunel - How could that be left out?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3094957/I-created-monster-Art-Garfunkel-45-year-battle-Paul-Simon-remains-one-showbiz-s-bitterest-feuds.html

Also, as this article points out, while the Beatles breakup may not have resulted in a breakout difference between Paul & John, it did with regard to the other Beatles - George Harrison and Ringo Starr, who were a little bit less successful in that order.

More about Garfunkel's bitterness. It isn't expressly stated in this article, but it's fact that Paul Simon went on to have a successful music career on his own, and Art Garfunkel didn't. When he says, how could Paul walk away from being on top of the world, he means that he and Paul were on top of the world. After the split "they" weren't, but Paul was still up pretty high. Would he have been higher still if they had stayed on as a duo? It's speculative.

Here, this says it directly:

"Following the breakup, Simon’s solo career achieved incredible heights, peaking with his 1986 magnum opus Graceland. Today, he still fills huge stadiums around the world when he tours and continues to release critically praised albums, most recently 2011’s So Beautiful Or So What.

Comparatively, Garfunkel’s solo efforts have been rather modest, released to little fanfare."

This isn't a strong example: we're comparing two highly successful acts. As such it doesn't make a good basis for a quote.

"Cold Chisel, as big as they were, never sold the amount of albums that Jimmy (Barnes) sold on a solo basis. Jimmy had such a wide appeal."
— Michael Gudinski of Mushroom Records, Long Way to the Top: Stories of Australian Rock & Roll

  • Jimmy Barnes - while no one familiar with Australian music would contest that Cold Chisel were one of the country's greatest rock bands, they were never as big as Jimmy Barnes was when he went solo.
