Really? Personally, I think the page image is too mild. In the situation depicted in the page image, I can hardly tell that I have hair at all. If I can find my glasses, it's only because I've trained myself to look for the subtlest of variations in color and shade which distinguish them from their surroundings. With glasses, I can drive just fine, thank you very much.
This is often averted in real life by people who wear their reading glasses all the time so they won't have to find them when they need them. I, for one, did that through primary school.
Don't know about the "Legally Blind without glasses" thing being absurd. Those were the exact words the eye doctor used when talking about my vision.
The Johnny Bravo quote, while funny, should probably be dropped. It doesn't apply to the trope, just an inversion.

I would argue that it is definitely NOT "truth in television". Most of the people would be just fine without their glasses. Maybe not able to read, or recognize persons from far away, but definitely have no problems with orientation or movement. There are indeed some rare cases when a person has an extreme myopia/astigmatism, which make them almost blind without glasses. But such persons will remain almost blind even with them, maybe just a bit less "almost". There is no way that some glasses will magically turn an "almost blind" person into a normal-seeing one.
