Could a villain fall under this trope at all? Like, let's say you have an Affably Evil Anti-Villain and he or she's probably the nicest and most polite character on the show, and then they snap one day before eventually calming down. Would that be this trope or would it just be a variation of Villainous Breakdown?
Hide / Show RepliesI think so, if you think you don't have to be good to be nice, and/or if they're a "villain has a point" kind of villain.
I don't like this trope because of the annoying people who go gaga over it. I even hate the name too. Just needed to vent this one day.
Edited by HeavyWeaponsPie AI noticed that there is some national stereotyping on the Real Life subpage. A few examples are along the lines of: "[Nationality] are generally nice, but have done some brutal things in war." Should I remove them?
As a possible better quote for the top of the page, consider this line from "The Wise Man's Fear", by Patrick Rothfuss. “There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.”
Why does the main page say that people should Beware the Nice Ones, "especially the female ones"? In my opinion, Gender Is No Object, especially when it comes to tropes like these.
I totally hate my avatar. Just saying.I do not believe the pic (Aris/Aerith from FF 7) is a proper fit for the trope page, there. I don't recall her ever being well known for having a Beserk Button or even being nasty when crossed really. Gohan (And Goku to a lesser extent) is FAR more suitable because he's easier to recognize (Who didn't watch Dragon Ball Z back then?!) and he's so well know for his epic rages.
Unless people object to this, I will change the pic example to Gohan.

This is still a signature.donatello tmnt is a polite, clam, but don't get him angry, so is mikey who used fun-loving jokester of group, and master splinter is kind and wise do not mess with his sons!!!
I dispute the concept that Conker of "Conker's Bad Fur Day" was ever "nice". He sacrificed a baby dinosaur that thought he was its parent, and didn't even try a peaceful way of getting the cows to move off the grate so the next one could get on... "Tranquil Psycho" is what I would call him.
Are there entire races in fiction that fit this trope? Be they fantasy races, alien species, and so on.
