Does this really count when the beating itself doesn't directly cause the curse to be lifted? A lot of the examples seem to be "subdue them so that you can deal with actual cause of the 'curse' without them trying to kill you" or similar. For example, in both current Western Animation examples, the beating didn't actually force the release, it just made the villain decide that continuing to possess them wasn't productive.

This is also a common defense of real-life child abusers. I once had an abusive stepfather who, whenever he would beat me or his own kids, would say something like "I see the devil working inside of you, and I will fight him in every way possible."
