This trope happens in Real Life all the time. And it can drive people mad. More harmless examples: - You finally get your dream job - and it turns out to be quite boring - You wish you'd have more time, and you loose your job (poverty ensues)
One of the more maddening - You get very angry at a person and wish upon them the worst of all evil, and then something happens to them. Despite the fact that there is no real connection, many people are driven into shame and regret.

Removed (Re: The Cosby Show):
- That particular episode was a surprisingly well-made version of the plot, realized with only the household members playing parts-within-parts. The script for the episode should be used to bludgeon those scriptwriters who utilize the trope poorly.
- "You haven't eaten yet!" [takes the rest of Theo's money]
- "I can get by on baloney and cereal!" [takes money back]
