Axed Andromeda from the myth of Perseus: she was a Human Sacrifice, not this trope.

Also not sure about this (in Mythology):

  • An example from the Christian martyrology: the unnamed Princess from Saint George of Cappadocia's legend, as well as her Japanese counterpart, Princess Kushinada from the Orochi myths.

The princess is again a Human Sacrifice, not this trope (the Barrier Maiden isn't supposed to be disposable!), but I don't know the Japanese legend, so I can't say whether it's correct.

Also, the example picture doesn't seem to have anything to do with the trope.

Having just come across this trope and having watched a certain episode of Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors on tape today, I can recall an instance of this- in "The Sleeping Princess" the princess of the title has some sort of pyschic link with the plants that keep her world alive, and when she got put to sleep by a wizard this link was severed (they had to wake her up to save it).

Trouble is, which category does it go in? I suppose Western Animation but I know the actual stuff was drawn by Japanese studios- very much doubt that makes it anime?
