No as what you describe is Shipping Goggles and therefore an Audience Reaction. Bait-and-Switch Lesbians requires explicit in-universe references, which these two don't get.
Where is the male version of this? If they're grouped together, it should have a more gender-neutral title & description.
Hide / Show RepliesDefinitely agreed, I think something akin to "Bait-and-Switch Gays" or "Bait-and-Switch Homosexuality" would be better.
Would the weird almost-kiss in the opening of XXX Holic between Maru and Moro count? Only that I never see it mentioned elsewhere, even though it's so... strange (the characters being about as sexless as it gets).
My posts make considerably more sense read in the voice of John Ratzenberger. Hide / Show RepliesSo I literally only just starting looking at this page, and I immediately have to chime in on the Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 part - its my #2 all time favorite anime - and I have to say JFC YES!!! I'm so pissed off that Lina and P Riss didnt end up together. They should have, and even though its one of my faves, this part still frustrated me to no end.
Can anyone explain what this weird opinionated rant about how male hentai writers are sexist manchildren is about? Or more specifically, why it's here?
Is this a valid example or not?
This entry:
- Paul Feig said of Ghostbusters (2016) that one of the Ghostbusters is gay, and he'd wanted to put more evidence in the film itself, but the studio didn't want it and so he isn't allowed to tell us which one. The film itself shows Holtzmann flirting with Erin a lot - one scene getting spotlighted in the trailer - but nothing's ever stated and she also hits on Kevin.
was recently deleted from this page by a troper with an agenda (search the Ask The Tropers forum for "Geeky Binka" to find the discussion). It doesn't seem valid enough to put it back though. As someone who hasn't seen the film, it seems too weak to me as an example (seems more like Les Yay + Word of God), and other tropers in the ATT discussion weren't sure if it was valid either.
Can anybody who has seen Ghostbusters (2016) comment please?
I think it would be really cool if we could get a rewrite for the trope description that makes it less specific to anime and manga, less specific to Girl on Girl Is Hot relationships, and is written less from the Yuri Fanboy perspective (although that is a valid one that deserves a place in the writeup) and a bit more from the Unfortunate Implications perspective.

Could Cloud and Sephiroth be considered a justified instance of this trope?
Straight or gay, no one would feel something that is not absolute hatred for the man who destroyed their hometown and still taunts them about it.
