...Holy crap. The page just got a lot shorter, all of a sudden.

There was an odd situation with the opening quote. The part of the quote that perfectly described common examples of badass-ness was left out, while the part that was pointless to anyone not familiar with the book was left in.

I think we need a new Badass trope for villains who are inherently badass but aren't necessarily a Hero Killer.

The villains we see and we know the hero will live to fight another day, but it's going to be one heck of an awesome throwdown regardless. The ones we want to watch fight the heroes again and again because their battles are that awesome. The ones who can match the hero blow for blow and who the audience honestly believes could win even if they never do.

I propose we call it 'Putting the Bad in Badass'.

Many of the subtropes listed in the page are not really about badasses. Such as Heroic Comedic Sociopath - even if they're awesome, its focus is on the atrocity they do and the humor that comes from it. Or Glowing Eyes of Doom - it's not necessarily about badassery and more as a sign of horror.

Can someone resolve this?

Is a trope for badass amnesiacs suitable or not?

This isn't a trope. It shouldn't have a examples and should just be an index. Cider would refer to the numerous forum threads where people failed to agree on exactly what a bad ass is but instead you can just look at the laconic. "Is insanely cool" is not a trope. "Ass Kicking With Style" the previous laconic, is way too narrow in how this is used.

All examples should be purged and this should just be treated as an index, like what was voted for in Action Girl.

Could someone please explain to me why "Bad Ass" and "Badass" link to identical pages, save for the title, instead of one being a redirect for the other?

Because they are the same word/page, just spaced differently. It will be the same for any other spelling, like BaDaSs.

Yeah in "Harkovast is full of bad ass furry characters, in scenes like this." under Web Comics, "this" is a link to a yiff in hell video. Figured you might want to know that.

I've ran into people putting in the YMMV tab before (the first YMMV page I ever read, Kirby) had it. People are stupid, that's all.

Because of This line:

A Badass is a fantasy figure whom the audience roots for precisely because they break or stretch the Willing Suspension of Disbelief.

Forgot to put this as the edit reason. The IP thread was locked early, but the Nick Fury pic was the runaway winner in the crowner, well ahead of the old pic of Marv, thus necessitating the switch.

I'm going to remove Gar as an alternate title, any problems with that? If so, I'll refer you to this.

Please remove the GAR redirect. It's already launched as a trope in it own right.

The Real Life section needs major clean-up, I think. There isn't a lot of natter, but the examples are bullet-ed

  • (like
    • this)
      • instead of standing alone

and it seems like it could be better organized by subdividing them into something like Political Figures, Military Figures, Average People (or something like that, although those belong in Badass Normal), and possibly Animals.

This has obviously been considered before, but shouldn't there be a trope which specifically refers to supernatural badasses, or simply a catch-all term for those with powers beyond those of a Badass Normal?

I only ask because I'm planning on putting an entry in for Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker which draws attention to the fact that it is the first game in the series to completely avoid having supernatural bosses (Discounting the super science required to make the bosses feasible), and I was pining for a curt trope to say that the game subverts rather than qualifying a "Badass" subversion. For the moment I'll just use Badass Normal to describe it.
