I have an idea. We make You Fail Auto Shop Forever, Cars Do Not Work That Way and Somewhere A Mechanic Is Crying redirects to here, just like Artistic License – Gun Safety and Artistic License – Biology, and a few others.

Eh, Everythings Worse With Snowclones so we don't need to set up a bunch of redirects including them.

Regarding The Alleged Car, that depends on where you live. Vehicle inspections aren't universal. I've owned cars for 15 years and have never had one inspected. The State of Nebraska doesn't require it for private vehicles.
You can get pulled over for having a light out or other obvious problems. If you cause an accident because your brakes failed, you're on the hook for that. If you knowingly drive with failed brakes, you're Driving Recklessly (and also an idiot). But if your brakes fail and you manage to stop safely, the law doesn't care. Stupid? Maybe. Truth in Television? Yes.
